Are You Called by a Different Name? Here’s My Story!

Are you ever called a different name than what you were given? I’m sure a lot of us fall into that category!

My given name is Angela, but very few people actually call me that. My mom used it a lot, and everyone on my dad’s side of the family (that I can recall) called me Angela too. But on my mom’s side, most of them called me Angel. My siblings, close friends, and family members still call me Angel—it’s kind of reserved for the special people in my life. I honestly don’t remember who first called me that because it’s been around forever!

Then there’s Angie—which, to be honest, isn’t my favorite. But that’s what I use in my businesses and with acquaintances. I started using it back in my early Avon days because I wasn’t comfortable with people who didn’t know me too well calling me Angel, and Angela just sounded way too formal!

On a side note, one of my grandmothers actually changed her name when she was older because she didn’t like what her parents gave her—haha! Her birth name was Lillie Mae, but she changed her middle name to Marie and went by Marie for the rest of her life.

Speaking of names… I’ve always loved genealogy! I’ve been working on it for over 20 years, and it’s such a fascinating hobby. I’ve uncovered so many interesting things about my family—nothing earth-shattering, but still pretty cool.

Soon, I’ll share the story of a distant family member who was his own grandpa — I kid you not! That’s what happens when people stay in the same place for too many generations. 😂

So, that’s it for today! Tell me your name story in the comments!
